THE PILLARS OF THE EARTH

i started reading this, oh, about a month ago. i'm wary of any book endorsed by oprah just because. bandwagon-averse, i am, i guess. but the book was a christmas/housewarming gift given by a friend a few years ago so i figured why not dust it off and dig in? i was immediately turned off by the harlequin novel-esque scenes that greeted me so my interest level dropped even more. but i figured why not give it another go? now i'm about 100 pages in and well, whatever. we'll see.
